How long is my 1st appointment at your Nob Hill Area Chiropractic center and what expect on my first visit? We will take a History and examination of your complaint and based on findings we will make recommendations for treatment or referral to any other specialist if needed. Plan on your first visit taking 30 min to 1 hour. Treatment consist of spinal adjustment of the area of complaint as well as any other areas that may contribute to the instability of symptomatic area. Prior to adjustment we utilize modalities such as heat, interferential electric stimulation, massage/myofascial release of trigger points and traction to prepare the body for adjustment.
What is the prevention and wellness program offered at your Chiropractic office in Albuquerque? The prevention and wellness program is for people who are experiencing chronic stress and muscle tension, and would like to reduce flare ups of pain in order to function on a higher level. We like to adjust areas of spinal tension that may be chronic due to chronic stress, and ergonomic demands, as well as target specific areas utilizing muscle testing for targeting specific functional neurologic impact. We offer a $49 per month auto-pay plan that allows people to come in twice per month for Chiropractic Wellness care.
I'm worried about my neck getting adjusted, I've read and heard some really scary things about it, what techniques does your chiropractor in Albuquerque use, especially for neck adjustments? We utilize a variety of techniques that are taught in Chiropractic College, (Diversified, SOT, AK, Activator) as well as techniques taught in Post Graduate Courses in Manual Medicine, and we have developed our own specific style and technique using a combination of methods that are appropriate for each individual. We also utilize Myofascial Techniques, coupled together with our adjustments, and have developed our own unique and specific style of technique.
With regards to the upper cervical spine, we acknowledge that is the area of the spine that is potentially most vulnerable for Vertebral Artery Desiccation. This area is especially potentially vulnerable to forceful manipulative techniques that utilize excessive over rotation and excessive lateral bending. This vulnerability of the upper cervical area of the spine (C1,C2), combined with overaggressive manipulative techniques, is possibly implicated in a very small and very rare number of cases of Vertebral Artery Desiccation (Stroke), that has been reported in the medical literature. We take your health very seriously, and understand the risk reward of intervention of pain vs. techniques used to relieve that pain. So the risk of Vertebral Artery Desiccation, however small and rare, is a concern for us and we are committed to minimize any risk, no matter how small and rare, as much as possible.
Therefore, our approach is to manually adjust the lower cervical segments (C3, C4, C5) in a modified manual technique that reduces excessive rotation and excessive lateral bending of the neck as much as possible, thereby potentially reducing risk of Vertebral Artery Desiccation. The upper cervical spine and occiput is adjusted with a mechanical adjusting instrument and myofascial release techniques of occipital and upper cervical musculature. We find this approach is safer, and equally effective in reducing upper cervical neck pain, and headaches, without the extreme rotation and lateral bending of the neck that is used in some adjusting techniques. We also recommend our patients seek medical attention first for any headaches, dizziness, or upper cervical pain, prior to seeking chiropractic care to rule out medical conditions that may be a source of these symptoms.
How do I know if Chiropractic is right for me? I tell my patients that Chiropractic is a great modality and art, but everyone is different and individual, and our treatments have to agree with your body.. The adjustments may be too hard for some people to handle, and so we have ways to minimize the intensity such as using hand held instruments or using less intense procedures such as mobilization and traction. However, the bottom line is that you will know right away whether it agrees with you or not, but you won't know until you try it firsthand. Therefore, for those that it agrees with it is a powerful modality and healing method.
What do you do that is different from other Chiropractors? I don't like to say that I am different or better than other chiropractors because as a Profession we have all been trained for 6-8 years to practice the Science and Art of Chiropractic, and it would be arrogant to presume that I am more special than the next Chiropractor. However, I am different in a sense that as we all practice our Art differently based on our experience and unique personality, I do try to honor my oath seriously and give of the best that I have to my patient population. I have many additional hours in a neurologic approach to Adjustments and try to target my treatments using a hemispheric approach as taught by the Carrick Institute of Neurology as well as taking a holistic approach to lifestyle and emotional effects on the body. I am Advanced Practice Certified and continually strive to incorporate any and all modalities that will help relieve peoples suffering and improve function, but at the end of the day I am a Chiropractor who loves to adjust the human spine and will always have a passion for this unique and profound method of healing
